Innovation in Europe’s advanced battery manufacturing sector

Europe’s bid to become the first climate-neutral continent is reliant on an innovative and diverse battery sector. The EU can make Europe the best place to nurture advanced battery technologies which will be the bridge to a transformed economy and society.

The previous Commission established the European Battery Alliance (EBA), and the Strategic Action Plan on Batteries to ensure Europe can develop the batteries needed to keep the growing market an increasingly strategic one at global level, through the scaling up of innovative solutions and manufacturing capacity in Europe. In order to capture the true benefits of cleaner, and more sustainable technological solutions, a range of battery technologies will be required.

The Consortium for Battery Innovation (CBI) is a global advanced battery research group supporting EU-based companies. The EU already supports a thriving lead battery value chain with some of the most advanced manufacturing and battery recycling plants in the world, supporting thousands of skilled jobs and driving forward battery innovation.

As the world’s only global pre-competitive research consortium promoting innovation in lead batteries, the CBI is at the forefront of the latest cutting-edge pure battery research to create next generation lead battery technology.

As the growing demand for rechargeable battery energy storage continues to soar, the EU needs battery technologies capable of delivering at scale to meet its decarbonisation and electrification objectives. Find out how the Consortium for Battery Innovation is supporting the latest advanced lead battery innovation for energy storage, motive and automotive applications here.
